The school is open on Sundays from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and offers children the opportunity to learn Lithuanian language, culture, history, traditions, dances and songs. The V. Krėve Lithuanian Language School of Philadelphia is located on the second floor of St. Andrew’s Parish in downtown Philadelphia.

Goals for school

To teach children the language, Lithuanian history, geography and culture.

To learn about Lithuanian songs and dances, traditional dishes and folklore.

To help children understand the need and importance of their mother tongue.

To speak only Lithuanian during meetings.
On December 16, 2023, the V. Krėvės Lithuanian School in Philadelphia staged the theatre show “Voro Vestuvės” by Lithuanian writer J. Marcinkevičius.
School principal
Irina Melikova (Brusokas) is the principal of the V. Krėvės Lithuanian School in Philadelphia and holds a Master’s degree in Child Psychology. She is responsible for the activities of the institution, the cooperation between teachers and students, and the quality and development of Lithuanian language education. She is also an active member of the Lithuanian -American community, participating in teacher conferences, seminars and other events. Irina Melikova is a role model for all those who cherish Lithuanian language, history and culture.

Our school
The vision of the school is to preserve and disseminate knowledge of the Lithuanian language, history and traditions, to develop students’ identity and patriotism, and to strengthen mutual relations and cooperation with other ethnic groups. The school aims to be an open, friendly and high-quality educational institution that contributes to the preservation and development of Lithuanian cultural heritage.
Lessons
Children are taught every Sunday by volunteer teachers and their assistants. In addition to learning Lithuanian, the children can also try dancing folk dances, singing Lithuanian folk songs, learning to play the Lithuanian instrument – kanklé, as well as attending religious lessons in Lithuanian.

School community
The school currently has about 40 children and 10 teachers, who are dedicated and creative in sharing their experience and wisdom with the growing Lithuanian community.
School teaching resources
The children are taught from the exercises books designed for Lithuanian language schools. Interactive learning exercises are also used in the school’s virtual learning ” Moodle” system, which parents can also access. It is important to note that every teacher tries to be as creative as possible in their lessons to get the children interested in the Lithuanian language.

The school is based on the curriculum, guidelines and school regulations established by “JAV Švietimo taryba” – Lithuanian education Council of USA.
In which grade you will be going?
– The pre-school class accepts children from 3 years of age.
– The preparatory (pre-primary) class admits children who have reached the age of 5 by 1 September.
– Children who have reached the age of 6 by September are admitted to the first grade.
Children are admitted to other classes on the basis of their age and Lithuanian language level.
